Dustin's Bday and a Rant.

If you are here to read about Lara's diagnosis, continue reading on the next post.

Hmph!! Lara's developmental therapist arrived here today almost 25 minutes late!!! There is no excuse for that, especially as she lives here in Atlanta and I know for a fact Lara is the first on her list of kids to see. Dustin hung around for therapy, while I went back to bed (because Lara woke up coughing at 5:30 this morning-she went back to sleep; I did not). This frustrated me greatly. But I think some of this is because I am already a little frustrated with her...not on a personal level, because she is really a sweet lady and I have enjoyed talking to her. But she led me to believe ALL this time that Lara is delayed in cognitive ability (by about 40%). Despite that I kept asking her why she believes this, all she ever said was, "She should be able to say ma-ma by now [at 10 months]." I couldn't bring myself to agree with her assessment, and before we found out about the probability of CP, I asked for a second opinion. Once we learned about the CP, I figured the therapist knew what she was talking about so withdrew my request for a second opinion. But I watched other babies, I read material, and it just didn't seem to me that Lara was delayed in this area. The developmental pediatrician asked me, "Are you worried about her cognitive development? Do you see any problems there?" I responded, "I don't know. I'm a first time mother, so I don't know what's normal and I worry about everything." After HIS assessment, he said, "Forget your worries, there is no concern about cognitive development. She's fine and get rid of the developmental therapy." I KNEW IT!! I just felt this therapist really focused on what Lara could NOT do. I know she cannot say ma-ma right now, but she can say kitty and duck and choo-choo and tree and teeth and juice and she makes animal noises and..you're going to make me sit around and wait on you for a whole 25 minutes because she doesn't say ma-ma????? I am now searching the internet for a phone number I lost to call our person in charge and nicely explained that we are done with developmental therapy, so have a nice day. Hmph!! I don't really know how to spell that because I don't usually hmph in my writing.

In happier news, here is Dustin celebrating his 27th birthday last night. Oh, yeah...he liked the...headress??

Grandpa couldn't get enough of the Saki!!

Summer Start

Dustin and I planted tomato plants last night.  The evening was stunningly beautiful. Granted I had to put on a sweatshirt, but it was on...
