Lara tried out a walker at PT on Friday. It was a really different way of walking, so it was hard for her. The PT hasn't said anything about Lara using one on a regular basis-again, we really want to focus on getting Lara to walk without help; a walker just seems too...permanent.
I am so blessed to be apart of an awesome church. We are a very "come as you are" church, and this gives you a wonderful chance to experience life at its fullest. You see the highs and deep lows of other's lives, and it's eye-opening and sometimes gut-wrenching. But it always inspires you-it helps you figure things out. I was inspired this past Sunday by a testimony that was given by an older woman who dealt with her daughter having brain surgery, followed by spinal meningitis. She talked about handing the control over to God in this situation...
I began to realize that I have never handed control over to God with Lara's CP. I pray for Lara regularly. I have learned lessons of love and patience through this experience. But I have always been in charge; I have always made the decisions; I have always felt that if I just do these things, and purchase this equipment, Lara will be fine. If I take Lara to therapy, and get Lara her braces, and do her exercises, she'll be fine. I am racked with guilt if I don't do any of these things when I should. I feel that the littlest thing could make me look back years from now with regret, or questions. Am I doing the right thing? I am not a control freak; I don't need things to go my way, but I do need to know which way they are going. I am "systematic," as a friend once called me. And while there is NOTHING wrong with this because this is the way God wired me, it's one of those things that I need to figure out how to use the right way.
Well, you see where this is going. Lara is truly God's daughter and her care is completely in His hands. I can't know the way she is going to turn out, physically or emotionally. And there's more of a question there for me than the "normal" parent. I need to allow God to take care of Lara and have a peace about the work we have to do for her. It's a lesson for all of us in some area of our lives. The right thing will happen if I just take the time to listen.

And the finale...
