Writing on the Walls

When I was little, as my mother will recount over and over again, I LOVED drawing on the walls. Such a big wide open space! Despite countless spankings, I never really got over that. In high school, I drew murals on my bedroom walls (my parents were much more approving then) and I love to paint furniture or create designs on cabinets. I am not an artist, but for me, sitting at the table with a coloring book has always been very boring. Staying in the lines? Drawing only on this one little piece of paper?

I read somewhere that a toddler is not developmentally ready to sit at a table and write on a piece of paper. It is not a natural way to sit and write; it has to be learned with practice. However, to stand or sit with arms up is much more natural and comfortable. It is best to let your toddler begin drawing and writing this way and ease them into the table and paper approach. However accurate that may or may not be, let's face it: Drawing on the wall is way fun!

So in my house, drawing on the walls is not only allowed-it's encouraged!!
