Dum-dum-dum. Not in the mood to write a blog, but going to anyway.

Lara is, once again, going through a phase where she is wearing me out. What is it with little ones and their phases? Right now, the phase is: "Mommy! Play with me! Mommy! Mommy! Mommy, wanna do this? Mommy, let's do this..." and this goes on ALLLLLL day long, until she takes a break midday for rest, then restarts the episodes as soon as she is out of her room. There is so little peace and quiet, that I am going bonkers, sorry the 80's word. She runs around and squeals all the time, with this absurd amount of energy that, if channeled properly, could build a skyscraper in a day. I feel quite emotionally worn out all the time. She is transitioning out of afternoon naps, which I am starting to get a little used to. She still has quiet time in her bedroom, during Claire's afternoon nap. Sometimes she will fall asleep while reading books, but usually she just plays around until I let her come out. I very, very much need this quiet time. It is amazing how she takes up every second of my life. Not that I am complaining. I mean, it doesn't get any better than having children, let me tell you. And I am trying quite hard to enjoy all the time I can. But I do rather think that 12 hours in a day is an awful lot of time to enjoy. ;) I am now even finding myself doing the unthinkable. I can't say it, it is just too awful. But the truth is (here goes), sometimes Lara is driving me so crazy, that I put in a movie just to get her out of my hair! (Gasp!) So I keep telling myself that this is just a phase. Please, God, let it just be a phase.Ha! Yeah, I cut Lara's hair. I couldn't find my hair cutting scissors anywhere, and kept forgetting to purchase a new pair, and Lara's hair really was getting quite disgusting, with it smelling even after taking a bath. So I finally had enough and took out my dull pair of kitchen scissors and hacked it off. Not entirely off as you can see in the above picture.

Lara and I worked out in the garden today. Our tomato plants have been infected with a fungus, so they do not look so pretty. However, the fruit is still delicious, and Lara loves to go out and pick things out of the garden. She also loves tomatoes like her mommy, and snacks on the cherry variety. I am so proud. Claire does not like tomatoes, but we'll see. At this point, Claire doesn't like much of anything that is not drenched in sugar. Speaking of sugar, the other day, I made some ice cream cones. So delicious. I am telling you, WHY do I buy and eat anything from the store? So much better when it is home-grown. My parents gave us two of their slaughtered chickens, and we cooked some chicken & noodles, and BBQ chicken (w/ homemade BBQ sauce), and the chicken was really quite different in comparison to the store's selection.

ANYway, sorry for the rambling. Claire is taking her sweet little time in walking. So far, she's done about 5 unsteady steps (in one event). I documented her first step at 1:02pm on July 7. But she likes to crawl, because she can go fast, and she also likes to be held. She is very happy to be held a lot. Claire really is not much of a talker. That's to be expected though. All she hears in a day is "Mommy, you want to play hide and seek?" "In a minute, honey, I've got to finish this." She does, however, love the kitties, and says "kitty" when she sees one and tries to play with them.
We do some signing with Claire, and here she is signing PLEASE. It's sort of monkey-type gesture.

We often put a hat on Claire now when she eats, as we were tired of her crawling around with potato soup, or spaghetti sauce, or whatnot in her hair the rest of the evening.

The summer is going by very quickly. Life feels like a whirlwind when you have children. A great adventure, though.

Summer Start

Dustin and I planted tomato plants last night.  The evening was stunningly beautiful. Granted I had to put on a sweatshirt, but it was on...
