I am about 2 months post-op now. I still am recovering, but my nose is great. I am breathing great, sleeping without any aids, etc. Very pleased with the outcome. I was pretty unsure there for awhile, but it's all good.
The main thing about this surgery is that the nose takes SO long to heal. I guess I kinda thought I would wake up one day and just suddenly have a new nose. But, no, it is a very gradual process, where your nose will get a little better each day. Then some days it might seem like a couple steps back. So if you have stumbled upon this blog because of the post title, and are about to have a septoplasty done, remember: the healing is gradual and sometimes disheartening. Give it time!
If I have to do anything like this again (say if I break my nose or something), you will have to drag me kicking and screaming to the OR. So when people ask me if it was worth it, that's a really hard question to answer. Maybe yes if I had more symptoms than just not being able to breathe at night. If my nose felt at 2 days post-op the way it feels now, yes, definitely worth it. But going through the recovery was pretty rough stuff. The honest answer is: my body needed it, and you should always give your body what it needs, no toughing out your problems. THAT, my friends, is for the lazy people. You can be lazy when you die. ;)
