Lara asked for a sleepover for her 7th birthday. But she also really wanted a Halloween party. We meshed the two together; I allowed her to invite 3 friends to spend the night, then to close out the birthday festivities, we invited a couple more kids the next day for the Halloween Birthday party (which was her actual birthday, October 26th).
The sleepover was spa-themed. After a supper of homemade pizza, we did our nails, had facial masks (a couple girls were a little too afraid to try), make-up, and foot baths. Halfway through our spa, I got out dessert: melted chocolate with an assortment of dipping choices. After a couple of hours, the girls settled in for a movie, and finally fell asleep around 11pm or so.
The Halloween Birthday party was a lot of fun too. After donuts and fruit the next morning, the girls played while I got things ready. More kids arrived, and there were 7 in all. We painted pumpkins, had a Halloween scavenger hunt, ate lunch and cake, and opened presents. I allotted about 2 hours for the party, and we stayed very busy for the entire 2 hours.
Needless to say, when the last child went home, I crashed on the couch. I was very tired and felt a cold coming on. We had received 3 Halloween party invitations from friends that day, but we did not take any of the offers-we were just too pooped!
All the kids seemed to have a really good time. I am glad I did this sort of party for Lara, though it was nothing short of crazy. We alternate birthday celebrations: last year, Lara's party was family and cake and ice cream and that was it. So this year, she got to do a full blown-out friend party. Everything went very well.
Claire got a present too.
Lara asked all the kids to wear their Halloween costumes.
Here is our picture from Trick-or-treating on Halloween night. Lara was Princess Aurora and Claire was Pumpkin.
