Yesterday, we got out of the house. Luke took his first trip to the library and the soda shop. Then we drove around Homer Lake for a little bit. He enjoys car rides.
We are doing well. Luke is a pretty easy baby so far. He doesn't like to be by himself, but we have plenty of hands here who want to hold him.
He generally eats every 3-4 hours. At night, when he wakes up to eat, I just nurse him quickly and lay him back down and he goes right back to sleep for another 3 hours at least; no fussing or crying. We are keeping him in the bed with us since he likes to snuggle. I will work on transitioning him later, no rush.
Things have been very quiet around here; we haven't had any visitors. While this is somewhat surprising to me (and a little disappointing), I'm also relieved because it's giving us a lot of rest. When Luke was born, I told friends and family that we weren't taking visitors. I only meant the hospital at that time because I knew I would need my rest that first day, especially if we could go home in 24 hours. I am SO glad I said that because we were absolutely BOMBARDED by the staff and nurses at Carle. At one point, I came out of the bathroom to find three different staff members lined up outside the door to talk to me. I only managed to take one short 30-minute nap, but even then a nurse still came in (but left when she saw me sleeping). So I do appreciate the downtime and relaxation we are getting, though that isn't to discourage anyone away.
The girls are in love with this guy. They always want to hold him, check on him, take pictures of him. They are just so sweet and nurturing with him. They are great helpers.
I am doing fairly well. To be honest, I desperately need to see the chiropractor, because I am not walking well. I am also emotionally and mentally adjusting to this new change. Please don't be alarmed, but do pray for me. While I cannot get enough of my little guy and just want to eat him up, I'm also a little overwhelmed by the major life change. We were in a very comfortable place in life, and now we are back in the world of interrupted sleep and diapers. It's a little crazy.
Okay, and also, this is so crazy, but still whenever anyone says, "He" or "Luke," I'm all like, "Who?" And I have to stop myself from calling him she! Isn't this awful? I've just called all of my children she for nine years, what do you expect? I find it's a lot easier to remember when I dress him in blue. LOL!
