Thanksgiving

Well, I hope you all had a Happy Thanksgiving! We spent the holiday with my side of the family, and enjoyed a lot of good food, spending time with family, and a hay ride! We finally called it quits when the three of us became too tired to function-Dustin was passed out on the couch and Lara was having an evening of meltdowns. But until then, we had a nice time.

This morning, Lara and I had breakfast with the girls from my small group. That's all we were going to do, but I figured we should take advantage of some of the good deals on Black Friday while we were in town. I am still reeling from it. It wasn't that it was crowded; it was, but not too much. I made the mistake of letting Lara use her walker at Toys R Us. I unfolded it, but didn't hear a snap to indicate it was properly set up. So I leaned on it and shook it and decided it was secure and I must just not have heard the snap. We walk into the bustling store, and Lara is doing just fine with the walker. I run into a friend who recently had a baby who I haven't seen yet. I wanted to talk with her, but she was whisked off by an employee to a check-out counter, so we shouted our hellos and I'll call yous across the aisles. During this time, I am also feeling flustered with the arrows on the floors indicating that I have to navigate 4 aisles just to get to the one I want. While I was pondering on this confusion and saying hello goodbye to a friend, something made me jerk my head around to Lara. AHHHHHHHHHH!!! In complete shock, I rush over to my baby darling who was face down on the floor because her mommy had not, in fact, set up the walker properly and it folded on her. Reminding myself that there is no mother who really does deserve the Mother of the Year award and we all have our screw-ups, I try not to cry tears of guilt while Lara screams in an aisle that I am pretty sure we were going down the wrong way. While I am putting in a huge effort to calm Lara down, an employee caringly, but quite annoyingly, continues to ask me questions regarding if I needed anything. So Lara is wailing and then I say, "Okay, sweetie, would you like to go over there and look at that big dinosaur?" And within a millisecond, Lara has stopped crying and she says, "Yeah! Oh, and dog!" I breathe a sigh of relief when I realize that Lara is not at all hurt and is just being my typical drama queen. I thought about going home, but decided we would just get back up on the horse and plow through.
I didn't see any good deals. But to make everything better, I let Lara take a ride on the Sesame Street fire truck, and that made us all a little happier.

Summer Start

Dustin and I planted tomato plants last night.  The evening was stunningly beautiful. Granted I had to put on a sweatshirt, but it was on...
