Oh My Sickness

Talk about realizing how lucky we are...to have a 2-year-old who's never had more than the occassional cold, unexplained fever, or ear infection. Those things were never really a big deal-you never had to clean anything, never really had to go to the doctor (except for the ear infections)...

Yesterday, Lara woke up from her nap and threw up 3x in a 2 hour period. The first time it happened, I was a bit stunned because we'd never experienced this before. 3x, I changed her outfit, wiped her down, cleaned the couches, and prayed to God this wouldn't be a 24-hour thing. Well, it wasn't. She seemed okay after 3 hours, although today, she is battling a fever with china-doll cheeks. Food and water she is keeping down okay and is generally in good spirits, so I haven't felt the urge to call the doctor. My only concern is that I cannot trust my thermometers. Lara feels very warm to my touch, but never registers anything over 101. Strangely, any time I complain of feeling really feverish, I never register anything at the doctor's office either. I only finally gave her some medicine today to ease any discomfort-and was again stunned at how much more medicine I can give her now that she's 2. I almost called a friend to ask if that's actually how much I am supposed to give a 2-year-old.

Well, I am sure I probably sound silly, making it a bigger deal than it really is. But you just never can be too sure. Especially when you've never dealt with it before. I'm inexperienced in this situation.

A couple days ago, Lara's friends came over for a playdate. Lara loves them to pieces. After they left, I walked into Lara's room and was amazed. It looked like a tornado went through it. All the kitchen food was all over the floor. The clothes in her dresser had been taken out and were all over the floor. Diapers were all over the floor. You actually could not see any of the floor at all. I don't normally keep Lara's room clean, but this was a disaster. Lara likes to make messes, but when it's just her, it's pretty well contained. Once this family really starts growing, I have a feeling this place will be a constant disaster.

Summer Start

Dustin and I planted tomato plants last night.  The evening was stunningly beautiful. Granted I had to put on a sweatshirt, but it was on...
