This morning, I was laying bed, having just woken up. My husband had already gone off to work. The girls had been up for about 10 minutes, and when they peaked in my room and saw that I was awake, Lara exclaimed joyfully, "She's awake!" (This is an every day occurrence).
After awhile, I heard a very loud crash in the girls' room. I said, "Is everyone okay? What happened?" I heard Lara giggling, so I shrugged my shoulders and went back to my reading.
But then Lara came in my room, and said, "Mom, Claire fell down and now she's bleeding."
I jumped up and ran into the room, and there saw Claire sitting on the floor with blood all over her leg. In a split second I thought, "I need to calm Claire down, and pinpoint where all this blood is coming from." In the second split second I thought, "Huh. Claire is very calm, and...that doesn't really look quite like blood..."
Then I heard, "April Fools, Mom!"
Bravo, my darlings, bravo.
And Lara said, "Yes, and I made you get out of bed early, haha!"
I won't mention to my husband, who orchestrated this, that when you add food coloring to enhance the look of things, it STAINS. Because the whole thing made me proud.
