Summer

Typed Last Week:
Summer has started, and I couldn't be happier. I'm currently sitting outside this morning, before the family wakes up. I'm enjoying the beautiful weather and rising sun, and, oh, restarting this blog.

With another baby on the way and due in the fall, I've decided we need to have a low-key and relaxing summer. As one friend put it, "The calm before the storm." This season also follows a very trying season. Back in the spring, I was often couch-ridden with the queasiness of the 1st trimester, and it didn't help that the girls kept getting colds and the flu about every five days. Dustin got very sick at one point as well, and while he managed without a doctor visit, he was in bed for several days and it took a good couple of weeks for his energy to come back.

So here we are. Out of the sickness, into the beautiful and refreshing summer.

Last Tuesday was our 20 week ultrasound. For reasons I will not go into here on my blog, I've been waiting for the ball to drop in this pregnancy. I go into every appointment with trepidation that something is going to go wrong. It slightly amazes me when I come out of the doctor's room with good news. (I am not high risk or anything, just me being pensive.) I was nervous about the ultrasound. However, everything looked great.  Baby was very calm and the U/S tech told me Baby is beautiful, with a cute nose. Baby weighs about 12oz, though I know from experience that weighing a baby through an ultrasound is not an exact science. We are not going to find out the gender this time, and it's been fun not knowing. We have a boy name picked out, but I haven't found a girl name that I really love yet. Baby is very active and wiggles around all the time; unless you push on my stomach and then Baby will calm down. So Dustin still hasn't been able to feel the baby yet.

We took the girls to the U/S, and for the most part, they thought it was kind of weird and gross. :) But Lara still showed an interest in understanding what she was looking at.

Everything is going just fine so far in this pregnancy.

On Wednesday, Claire started her camp at Homer Lake. They take hikes, look at bugs, play in the dirt, etc. Just Claire's kind of thing! After I dropped her off, Lara and I spent that time at the library, where I had to convince her she did not need to check out 54 books. (Just Lara's kind of thing!) Claire had a great time and Lara finished her 10 books by the next day.

Later that afternoon, the girls and I went to the State Farm pool in Bloomington with our cousins/good friends. Afterward, we grabbed some dinner together.  It was a nice time.

On Thursday, the girls and I went over to my friend's house to help her clean up and do a little more packing as they settle into their new home and get their old home ready to put on the market. Claire was so helpful. ;)

On Friday, Dustin stayed home from work after a really good, but exhausting week of work. We went bowling and ran some errands.

That night, I took Claire out for some alone time. A stranger would call Claire quiet and shy, but when she is comfortable with you, she does not stop talking. We got ice cream and walked around at Homer Lake. A rain shower had just passed through, and a thunderstorm was on its way, but in the interim, Claire and I held hands under the rainbow umbrella and walked and talked. Homer Lake was peaceful and wet, with a gentle mist hovering over the lake and hugging the trees. Everything smelled of good wood and rich soil, and it was lovely. As the thunder got louder, Claire and I headed home, sharing a story about Link and Zelda, the characters in her favorite video game. A perfect way to spend an evening.

It's going to be a great summer.

Summer Start

Dustin and I planted tomato plants last night.  The evening was stunningly beautiful. Granted I had to put on a sweatshirt, but it was on...
