I asked Dustin to please take the girls out last night and do something fun with them. Lara was being uncharacteristically cranky most nights this week. I think they've been feeling really cooped up, and like I mentioned before, not having a schedule can cause problems.
So yesterday and today, I did a little bit of school with them. Yesterday, we worked on handwriting, played a geography game, did some math worksheets, and read some geography books together. Oh, and reviewed geography words with Minecraft, a neat idea I found on Facebook and the girls loved it.
I actually made supper (go me), and then Dustin took the girls to my sister's house and also did some grocery shopping. They were exhausted when they got home. Claire started crying and couldn't stop. That's okay, it happens. I laid in bed with her and told her about how she loved pacifiers when she was little. She would hold one paci in each hand, and put one in her mouth. When she turned around three, we took her over to Aunt Molly's house so she could give her pacifiers to cousin Olivia, and then she was done with them forever.
Today, we did school again. Handwriting, math worksheets, and while Claire and I did some reading work together, Lara made a map of our yard with a key, compass, and instructions to find a buried treasure. Later after the girls took naps (they don't do this anymore, but I could tell they really needed them today and in fact, Lara agreed), Dustin carved pumpkins with the girls. We think it's funny how Lara's pumpkin has the same facial expression as Claire, with missing teeth. That was not on purpose.
Then he took them to get their Homer Soda Co. soda (they get a bottle every Friday) and got us a pizza from Monical's. We had a family movie night.
They are obviously in much, much better spirits now.
We do scheduled bedtimes and nightly routines still, but not on Fridays. We let the girls do what they want and go to bed when they want (unless we have a lot of plans starting early Saturday morning; usually we never do). If Dustin and I are really tired, we will actually say goodnight to the girls and go get in bed, while they are still up and playing. But we are doing stuff on our computers/phones or reading for a little bit still by the time the girls decide to call it a night too, so we never actually go to sleep before them. So it has been a pleasant evening with the girls.
I'm getting used to staying at home. The dishes are always done, I've been doing laundry every few days, and I've been planning my homeschool lessons that we will start back up in mid-November. I feel like I am really staying on top of things. I think I had still hoped that maybe I would do more with the girls, in terms of school, chores, and fun projects. But I'm feeling too lethargic for that stuff.
Baby is due tomorrow.....officially 40 weeks...
