Yesterday was a long, long, but good day. After homeschool co-op, we had lunch in Champaign and were joined by some new friends.
After that, we headed to Claire's speech therapy. I'm not sure if I mentioned it yet on this blog: Claire was really difficult to understand for quite awhile, so I took her in for a speech evaluation...I can't remember when. They diagnosed her with a frontal lisp (if you don't know, that just basically means her tongue slips out between her teeth a lot when she talks, rather than keeping it back behind the teeth). For several months, I took her in for speech therapy once a week. Yesterday, her speech pathologist did another speech evaluation, which Claire aced. She spoke very well, both individual words, sentences, and in telling stories. Which means that Claire has been discharged from speech therapy!
We went home to rest, and then headed back into town for Lara to attend a birthday party for a new friend she's met at the church we've been attending for the last couple of months. She had a great time and was all energy and laughter on the way home. We've been really blessed to find good friends and fellowship at this church.
The day before was another pretty busy day. I did a bunch of housework and school work. So last night, I was feeling pretty cranky and exhausted, and realized I'm just doing way too much. It's not really hard for me to say no to people; I just never want to! I enjoy getting out of the house, meeting with people, and doing fun activities. It's hard for me to stay home. But right now, my body just needs to rest. Hopefully, I will have the baby sometime next week (I'm currently 4.5cm dilated), which means I really need to rest up emotionally and physically over the next several days in preparation. I have to force myself to slow down. I basically decided to take everything off my calendar for the entire next week-anything that would take me out of the house. Except for this Monday, which is Lara's 9th birthday. She's requested an evening in town, eating out with a couple of friends. I think we will try to honor that. But, really, that's it.
I realize it's just harder when you have children with all their friends and activities to accommodate in addition to your own. It's also harder when people just forget you are pregnant and so might ask/expect things of me that aren't easy for me right now. I should probably take that as a blessing and a compliment. It's been a very smooth pregnancy (though the 1st trimester was hell), and I've had many say, "You look really healthy," or "cute," or "good," or whatever. So sometimes my NO has been hurtful, sometimes people have totally understood and they've inspired me to be more understanding. Some people have already been giving me freezer meals and offering to take the girls and asking me if there's anything else I need for the baby. And others just kind of forget and get upset if they are not getting enough attention from me. That's the way the world works-you have to take the bad with the good.
So right now it's after 9:30am, and I'm still in bed, and I think that's good.
